Quiche (Ham & Cheese Strata)by request of Donna Pearson

SERVES 6 - 8


 Eight slices of white bread, crusts removed, cut into small squares

One cup of cubed ham (ham cut into small squares)

One and a half cups of grated Swiss cheese

Half a cup of sliced mushrooms

Eight eggs

Two cups of milk

Four tablespoons of melted butter

Half a teaspoon of dry mustard

Half a teaspoon of salt

Half a teaspoon of pepper



 The night before serving, do the following.

1.                  Butter (or spray,) a 9x13x2-baking dish

2.                  Layer the dish with the bread, ham, mushrooms and cheese beginning with bread and ending with cheese

3.                  In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, butter, dry mustard, salt and pepper

4.                  Pout the mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish and cover with plastic wrap

5.                  Refrigerate overnight

6.                  Pre-heat oven to 350 degree

7.                  Remove plastic covering and bake at 350 degrees for 45 – 50 minutes

 8.               Take out of oven and let it sit for 5 minutes

 9.               Cut into squares and serve warm.

  Can be served on a dinner-sized plate with some sausage and fruit as a garnish
